Using Frames and Borders

Add frames and borders to your QR codes to include call-to-action text and guide users on what to do.

Frame Options

Frames add a decorative border around your QR code with optional text.

Enabling Frames

  1. In the QR code builder, select the Frame tab
  2. Pick a frame style:
    • None: no frame around the QR code
    • Rounded with Text: rounded rectangle border with a text strip on the bottom
    • Rounded with Text (Top): same shape, with the text strip on the top
    • Corner Brackets: minimal L-shaped brackets at the four corners
    • Ribbon (Bottom): a ribbon-shaped text banner under the QR code
    • Ribbon (Top): a ribbon-shaped text banner above the QR code

Adding Frame Text

Frame text adds a message like “Scan Me” or “Learn More” to guide users.

Text Settings

Text Content Enter your call-to-action text. Keep it short and actionable:

  • “Scan Me”
  • “View Menu”
  • “Get Offer”
  • “Learn More”
  • “Download App”

Text Position The position is set by the frame style itself: “Rounded with Text” and “Ribbon (Bottom)” place text below the QR; “Rounded with Text (Top)” and “Ribbon (Top)” place text above. To switch from top to bottom (or vice versa), pick a different frame style.

Text Styling

Font Family Choose from available fonts to match your brand.

Font Weight

  • Normal: Standard text weight
  • Bold: Heavier, more prominent text

Italic Toggle to italicize the text.

Text Color Choose a color that contrasts with the frame background.

Visual Best Practices

  • Contrast: Frame text should be easily readable
  • Size: Don’t make the frame so large it overshadows the QR code
  • Simplicity: One clear message is better than multiple
  • Consistency: Match frame colors to your brand

Size Considerations

When using frames, account for the extra space they add:

  • The total image size increases with frame width
  • Plan for this when designing print materials
  • Test at the actual print size

Examples

Minimal Frame

  • Thin border (2-3px)
  • No text
  • Subtle corner rounding
  • Same background as QR code

Call-to-Action Frame

  • Medium border (4-6px)
  • “Scan Me” text at bottom
  • Rounded corners
  • Contrasting frame color

Bold Branded Frame

  • Thick border (8-10px)
  • Brand name as text
  • Square corners
  • Brand colors

Removing Frames

To remove a frame, select None from the frame style options. The QR code preview updates immediately.
